Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy and Miss Porter's School Global Summit

Welcome to South Africa

In this interdisciplinary, residential program co-hosted by the Porter’s Center for Global Leadership (PCGL) at Miss Porter’s School (MPS) and the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls (OWLAG), young women will be empowered to become leaders and changemakers.

Located outside of Johannesburg, the state-of-the-art OWLAG campus is a secure and private home base to explore the local region, to connect and live with girls from around the world, and to meet with community leaders and experts affected by and working on global issues of the day. Girls will gain understanding of the world around them as they acquire the tools they need to make change in their communities at home.

You will engage with local social history, contemporary youth activism, and transformative initiatives based in and around Johannesburg as you explore the importance of women’s leadership on a global scale. You will also use site visits to fuel your inquiry into a variety of topics including the:

  • Impact of climate change.
  • Systems that drive inequality.
  • Efficacy of public health infrastructure.
  • Transformative ideas in digital and virtual technology.

As you learn from community leaders, experts, scholars, and Ms. Winfrey, you will be given the tools and space to organize your own leadership capacity and visions for the future.
