Summer in Farmington, summer leadership programs for girls

Summer in Farmington

ChangeMaker’s Institute

The ChangeMaker’s Institute is an elevated leadership program, offering girls a personalized approach to passion-driven changemaking within their communities.

Dates: July 6 – 19, 2025

Tuition: $4000 (two week program, including weekend overnight retreat)

Prerequisite: Completing any two sessions of Sarah Porter Leadership Institute

Ages: Rising 7 – 9 graders

Registration for 2025 will open in late 2024.

Girls explore the legacy of female changemakers through history, unpacking how womanhood influences leadership and social impact. Girls then learn about and practice various tactics, strategies, and frameworks for user-centered problem solving and social change to navigate complex scenarios and real world experiences. This program includes a multi-day, weekend leadership retreat off site, where girls have the opportunity to apply these skills through hands-on challenges and experiences. The program will conclude with a cumulative capstone project, in which girls apply their new skill sets to developing and delivering a workshop for younger girls in the community.

The ChangeMaker’s Institute is designed for returning campers to build upon the foundation established in the Sarah Porter Leadership Institute (SPLI). Campers must have completed any two weeks of SPLI prior to enrolling in this program.

Learning Objectives:

Campers will develop an individual approach to passion driven changemaking based on leadership skills, passions, and interests.

Campers will interpret broad social issues by centering the experiences of girls and women, locally and globally.

Campers will acquire tactics and strategies for problem assessment and solving, including frameworks for social change, models of changemaking, and user-centered problem solving.

Campers will apply the skills and knowledge acquired to develop and deliver a workshop to younger girls in the community about the role they can play as community changemakers.
