Summer in Farmington, summer leadership programs for girls

Summer in Farmington

Institute for Global Education

Offered in Partnership with the Institute for Global Education at Miss Porter’s School

Our academic institutes introduce girls grades 7-9 to the key tenets of the Miss Porter’s School learning environment, which are interdisciplinary in nature and global in scope. Girls learn beyond the classroom by conducting field research, interacting with leaders in their respective fields, and developing skills through real world application and hands-on experience.

The Institute for Global Education prepares students to contribute to our world as global citizens, empowering girls to challenge their assumptions, engage with diverse perspectives, and cultivate the empathy and responsibility needed to contribute to the global community.

Registration is open!

Programs fill on a first-come, first-served basis. A non-refundable deposit payment must be made to reserve a space at the time of registration in a program by check or credit card. All payments made after May 30 are non-refundable.

Girls thrive in our supportive, collaborative environment where curiosity and confidence blossom. They complete their programs with a greater understanding of all they can accomplish as informed, bold, resourceful, ethical global citizens.

Summer in Farmington will run from Sunday, July 6 - Saturday, July 26, 2025

2025 Program Offerings

Issues to Action

Dates: July 6 – 12, 2025

Tuition: $1750

Prerequisite: None

Ages: Rising 7-9 graders

Through Issues to Action, girls explore complex contemporary issues and come to understand how global communities and challenges are interconnected. Central to the program is a trip to the United Nations in NYC, where the girls are given exclusive access to international women leaders and decision-makers and attend a press conference, followed by an intimate discussion with a UN official. Upon their return, girls learn about the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals and take on a collaborative project focused on one of those goals. Additional activities include research and communication skill development and a screening of the film Girl Rising. They complete the program with a deeper understanding of global issues and – more importantly – how young women like them can take action and make a difference in their communities.

Learning Objectives:

Campers will explore the interconnectedness of our global community, analyzing the advantages and challenges of globalization.

Campers will explore the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, identify examples of sustainable change in their local and global communities, and assess the factors that contribute to their effectiveness and impact.

Campers will develop research and communication skills through round table discussions, outside speakers, and group projects.

Campers will collaborate with peers to craft a passion-driven project that explores the role of women in enacting change within their communities.

Global Discourse: A Leadership Exploration

Dates: July 13 – 19, 2025

Tuition: $1750

Prerequisite: None, but it is an excellent follow-up to Issues in Action.

Ages: Rising 7-9 graders

In Global Discourse: A Leadership Exploration, girls further their understanding of how the United Nations has handled conflict across the globe, both historically and in the current times. Girls learn about how global issues have been addressed through the UN’s history and analyze positive and negative impacts of their decisions. Throughout the programs, girls engage in political decision making simulations and develop both their research and communication skills through a final project. By the end of the program, girls leave with a deeper understanding of global conflict, the hardships associated with helping those affected, and how they can be a part of making change.

Learning Objectives:

Campers will learn and practice skills for respectful and engaged political discourse through round table discussions and in-class debates.

Campers will learn to utilize frameworks for assessing social change and analyze the positive and negative impacts of political decision making.

Campers will develop and refine research, collaboration, and communications skills through the completion of a final project.
