Our Water Planet

Ages: Rising 7-9 graders
Our academic institutes introduce girls grades 7-9 to the key tenets of the Miss Porter’s School learning environment, which are interdisciplinary in nature and global in scope.
Our Water Planet offers girls a chance to learn about Connecticut’s marine ecosystems. Through field trips, hands-on exploration, and experimentation, girls understand the complexities of river ecosystems. Girls collect water and silt samples and examine small organisms, test water quality, and address the ways human activities impact rivers and streams. Trips to local seaports, rivers, and coastal salt marshes will further help them understand the interactions among species in these habitats, and the importance of marine ecosystems to humans. Field experiences include river testing and aquatic life surveys, Mystic Seaport, Hammonasset Beach State Park, and the Farmington River.
Learning Objectives:
Campers will explore and compare multiple freshwater, marine, and coastal ecosystems, using field techniques to collect species samples and identify unique qualities of both.
Campers will learn and practice field work techniques to effectively evaluate and analyze water quality.
Campers will explore humans’ impacts on Connecticut’s water ecosystems and their role in sustainable preservation and community initiatives.
Registration for 2025 will open in late 2024.
Programs fill on a first-come, first-served basis. A non-refundable deposit payment must be made to reserve a space at the time of registration in a program by check or credit card. All payments made after June 15 are non-refundable.
The TOEFL and English language proficiency are required for international students.
